An electric shaver can look "like new" even after years – until you notice that shaving takes longer and your skin burns afterward. The culprit is almost never the motor, but a worn-out shaver head. Here you will find the manufacturer's recommendation from Braun, the typical signs that it needs replacing, and which spare part fits your device.
What Braun recommends
Braun provides a clear benchmark: the shaver head should be replaced every 18 months to ensure the shaver continues to perform optimally. Braun states that during this time, a shaver head cuts over 6 million hairs – the cutting parts slowly wear down, and the shave becomes less thorough and less comfortable.
Many Series 7 devices also have a replacement indicator that lights up when it is time for a new shaver head. These specifications refer to the manufacturer's original parts, but they are the best guideline for any spare part.
Five signs that a replacement is due
- Shaving takes longer. You have to go over the same area multiple times until it is smooth.
- The shaver pulls on the hairs. Instead of cutting cleanly, it tugs – noticeably, especially on the neck and chin.
- The skin is red or burns afterward. Dull blades and a worn foil place more stress on the skin.
- The shaving foil is bent, dented, or has a hole. Replace it immediately – a damaged foil can injure the skin.
- The replacement indicator lights up (if your device has one).
Which spare part fits your Braun shaver?
Series 7: Shaver head 70S
The 70S shaver head fits Braun Series 7 shavers, for example, the models 720, 720s, 730, 750cc, 760cc, 790cc, and 795cc-3. It is replaced as a complete cassette: remove the old shaver head, attach the new one until it clicks into place audibly.
Series 1, FreeControl and cruZer: Shaving foil 10B
The 10B unit consists of shaving foil and blade block. It fits, among others, the Series 1 models 170, 180, and 190, as well as FreeControl and cruZer devices (e.g., Z3 to Z60). Always replace the foil and blade block together – a new foil on a worn blade block provides only half the performance.
You can find your model number on the device or in the operating instructions. Always check it against the list of compatible models on the product page before purchasing.
How to extend the service life
- Clean after every shave. Tap out hair or – for waterproof devices – rinse the shaver head under running water.
- Allow to dry open. Do not store the shaver head closed and damp after rinsing.
- Do not press on the foil. Never use your fingers or a brush on the shaving foil when cleaning – it is very thin and bends easily.
- Oil optionally. A small drop of suitable blade oil on the foil, followed by running the shaver briefly, can reduce friction and wear.
In summary
- Braun recommends replacing the shaver head every 18 months.
- Replacement is due at the latest when the shaver pulls, the skin burns, or the foil is damaged.
- Series 7 → Shaver head 70S. Series 1, FreeControl and cruZer → Shaving foil with blade block 10B.
- Regular cleaning and careful handling of the foil extend the service life.
