In short: Philips recommends replacing the OneBlade blade at least every four months, based on two full shaves per week. If you shave more often or have a thick beard, you should replace it sooner. As soon as the blade starts pulling at the hair, it is time for a new one. Replacing it takes just a few seconds.
How long does a OneBlade blade last?
According to Philips, the blade should be replaced at least every four months. This is based on two full shaves per week; the actual durability may vary. Mathematically, this corresponds to approximately 34 full shaves. How quickly the blade wears out depends primarily on how often you shave, how dense and thick your beard is, and how well you maintain it after shaving.
| How often do you shave? | Approximate replacement interval |
|---|---|
| up to 2 full shaves per week | at least every 4 months (Philips specification) |
| 3 to 4 shaves per week | approximately every 2 to 3 months | daily shave | approximately every 5 weeks |
The values in the bottom two rows are rules of thumb that we have calculated based on the Philips specification. What matters is how the blade feels to you.
How to tell that the blade needs to be changed
- The blade pulls or tugs: According to Philips, this is the clearest sign – if the blade catches on hairs, it should be replaced.
- You need more passes: You find yourself going over the same area more often for the same result.
- The skin reacts more strongly: Redness or burning after shaving increases, even though you are not doing anything differently.
- Visible damage: If the blade is bent or damaged, replace it immediately.
Changing the OneBlade blade – step by step
- Switch off the device.
- Remove the old blade: Hold the blade firmly on both sides. If your model has a release button, push it towards the blade until the blade detaches. If there is no button, press on both sides and carefully pull the blade off.
- Attach the new blade: Hold the new blade by the sides and place it onto the handle until it clicks audibly into place.
- Test briefly: Switch it on, let it run for a moment – done.
These steps correspond to the Philips instructions for blade replacement. Our replacement blades are attached in the same way as the original blade.
How to make the blade last longer
- After every shave, remove the attachments and rinse them under lukewarm water.
- Blow hair out of the blade instead of tapping it out or using tweezers.
- Before doing so, close the cover of the charging port, then switch on the device and rinse the head and handle under lukewarm water – without soap, as it can damage the glide coating.
- Allow the blade to air dry and do not rub it with a towel; you can dry the handle.
